By the time this goes online, I will be enjoying the beauties of the island of Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands. But before leaving, I want to share with my dear BMoF readers a bit of the pleasure of having a cold drink by the beach, through a song by the young singer CéU, ‘Malemolência’ (from her 2007 debut album). (This is how my friend Thania Thaddeu correctly describes what comes to mind when one listens to this song!) 'Malemolência' is a Brazilian word meaning a lazy, slow kind of swing: the elegant ways of the old malandros (now go look that one up!).
CéU is one of the most talented singers of her generation, receiving considerable recognition in Brazil as well as abroad (e.g. quite a few Grammy nominations). (She was one of the backing vocals for the 2010 version of Umbabarauma, which I posted a few weeks ago.) So let CéU (which means 'sky', incidentally) take you to the beach today, while I enjoy the real thing in Fuerteventura... (Btw, BMoF will have a mini-break next week.)
