Another busy week here, and only now do I get the chance to work on this week’s BMoF (I usually do it during the week). So I opened youtube to see what would inspire me today, and in fact I already sort of had something else in mind. But then youtube suggested I check a real gem, a live version of ‘Alta noite’ by Marisa Monte, accompanied by two acoustic guitars: Dori Caymmi (one of Dorival Caymmi’s sons, who I posted on a few weeks ago) and Raphael Rabello. Raphael Rabello was widely considered as one of the most talented Brazilian acoustic guitar players ever; sadly, he died prematurely in 1995.
I’ve never thought much of this particular song, recorded in Marisa Monte’s 1994 album Verde, Anil, Amarelo, Cor-de-Rosa e Carvão, but this particular version truly embodies what is so special about Brazilian music: amazing guitars and delicate, precise vocals. (This is really a great thing about writing BMoF: I keep discovering gems I didn’t even know existed.)
