The twitter feed of the Brazilian Rolling Stone magazine informs me that Clube da Esquina, one of the most memorable Brazilian albums of all times, was released exactly 40 years ago this week. It is a collaborative album by Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges and a number of other talented musicians of the same ‘gang’, a group of friends from and at the time all based in the state of Minas Gerais. I wrote about this album almost a year ago, and posted the song ‘Clube da Esquina 2’. But there are so many great songs in this album that a commemorative post is called for, in its 40th anniversary. Here are a few more of these wonderful songs: ‘Me deixa em paz’, sung by the amazing Alaíde Costa and Milton Nascimento; ‘O trem azul’, sung by Lô Borges; and ‘Cravo e Canela’, which recently received an improbable recording by Tortoise and Bonnie Prince Billy. But as I said last time: what you should really do is acquire the album in whichever way you can, and listen to the whole thing ASAP.
