At the risk of losing all my (scarce) readership in one go, today I’m posting a terrible, terrible song. ‘Ai se eu te pego’, a song by a member of the very resilient species ‘teen idols’ (a fellow named Michel Teló) is now the number 1 song on the hit parades of several European countries (Netherlands included). Apparently, it is also a big hit in North America. I am absolutely astonished that such a silly song would have such an impact, but there you go; according to Wikipedia, the effect has been boosted by football players enacting the corresponding ‘choreography’ when they score (especially Cristiano Ronaldo) – which is also a fair representation of the abominable lyrics. Be that as it may, here’s a reminder (of potential sociological interest) that there is a lot more to Brazilian music than the gems that I usually post here at BMoF… Listen at your own discretion. (But rest assured that we will resume our normal modus operandi as of next week.)
