By contrast, I would accept funding from Templeton. Would you? It would be better if philosophy research (positions) would be funded entirely out of income from university endowments, where available, and enrollments. For as Massimo suggests, all funding comes with indirect strings. But I am not in the position to be too choosy; my research (and that of my PhDs) is funded by grant agencies. I view Templeton as a splendid possible, alternative source. It's called diversification (or portfolio-management). It also reduces the influence of any given funding source.
