I'm still obsessing about the Caetano Veloso record I was talking about last week, Circuladô. Last week I said that ‘Fora da ordem' was without a doubt my favorite song of the record, but now I need to qualify the claim: I’m also in love with ‘Lindeza’, the last track of the album. ‘Lindeza’ means something like ‘beautifulness’, but the recurring phrase in the lyrics is ‘coisa linda’ (beautiful thing). Its lullaby-ish features make it a perfect going-to-bed song for kids (I often sing it to my daughters, who are beautiful things…), but more generally it is a truly beautiful and delicate love song.
Instrumentally, it is elegantly minimalistic: mostly Caetano’s guitar and the lovely piano arrangement performed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. I’m also posting here the live version of the song, with a cello solo by Jaques Morelenbaum, with whom Caetano collaborated actively in many projects since the 1990s, and a piano solo by Sakamoto. Do listen to both versions!
