A few times here I have noted the peculiar fact that philosophers have a tendency to lend their projects to propaganda efforts for dictatorial PR (no today I am not interested in LSE's philosophy department's embrace of the Gadaffis); recall my blogging about the cfp for Transforming the Human and its connection to Bahrain's petro-dollars, here and here). The new conference venue, Dublin is, of course, no Bahrain. So, I applaud the move, even though the reason given -- "due to the political unrest" -- seems to miss the moral obtuseness of the original plan. So, I remain struck by the fact that the current conference website still features military R&D in such positive light, and that the cfp prefers to talk of "enhancement" rather than "eugenics" (I realize there is more to eugenics than enhancement).
