We have been following how LSE's philosophy department got seriously entangled with Libyan oil/blood money (here and here, and for recent further revelations here). But, of course, the story is far wider. As Paul Rahe reports (in context of the corruption of political theorists' cozying up to Gaddafi) about this story, "Intellectuals have a tendency to become whores. In particular, he calls attention to a further report by Glenn Reynolds at www.instapundit.com that caught my attention about the sleezy role of Monitor group (a consultant firm that I tried to work for fresh out of college, to be told, I did not have what it takes to be a consultant!:)) in connecting prestigious academics as well as the usual line-up of neocons with PR work on behalf of Libya. (The Monitor business plan gives a revealing picture how democracy works in practice.) The Huffington Post has a nice summary.
