The 21st Century Monads, a philosophical band composed of Kris McDaniel (Syracuse), Ben Bradley (Syracuse) and Carrie Jenkins (Nottingham), have a new song about the gendered conference campaign, and more generally about female representation in edited volumes, anthologies, conferences etc. It is appropriately called "I like to see the ladies". Here is an interview with Kris McDaniel about the song. Do go to the Monads' website to check it out!
The lyrics:
I like to see the ladies
I like to see the ladies
At the conferences giving papers
I like to see the ladies
I like to see the ladies
At the conferences giving papers
When I look around
And no ladies can be found
It always seems to bring me down
And I think that it should you too
Not demanding 50/50 representation
Just a little bit of more consideration
When your proposed conference
Is starting to smell like a sausage fest
I like to see the ladies
I like to see the ladies
As authors of papers in anthologies
I like to see the ladies
I like to see the ladies
As authors of papers in edited volumes
When I flip the page
I feel something close to rage
If not a single name of a lady can be found
Or one lady for 50 dudes
So don’t tell me that I’m being rude
‘cause I’ll be quickly telling you
Do a little bit better than that
I like to see the ladies
I like to see the ladies
At the conferences giving papers
I like to see the ladies
I like to see the ladies
At the conferences giving papers
And I like to see the ladies
I like to see the ladies
As authors of papers in anthologies
I like to see the ladies
I like to see the ladies
As contributing papers to edited volumes
