This is a corrected entry; in an earlier version I confused Peter Temin with Peter Diamond!!! (No doubt due to my vain attempt at self-promotion!) I think it is a good thing that the prize was given to folk that a) are doing real empirical work; b) not public intellectuals; c) return economics to its roots in institutionalism; d) work on a real social harm (unemployment). I wonder if the prize gives the Republicans a further excuse to delay his appointment to the Fed.
