George Monbiot has a nice piece (here) in the Guardian about how the current financial crisis in the UK is precisely the crisis that makes possible the types of neoconservative reforms that Naomi Klein details in her book Shock Doctrine. Monbiot also providea a brief summary of Klein's arguments for those who might be unfamiliar with them. Needless to say, Monbiot's claims are equally valid for what's going on in the States as well. His arguments don't seem to apply as well to Europe, however, as the protests in France show, but Sarkozy seems to be far from giving in either.
