There were news reports indicating that an Oklahoma affiliate did this in March, when there was brief mention of human evolution.   Some claimed it was an accident.   There are now rumors (I don't have an internet link for this) that they did this again last night in Louisiana.   Can any Louisiana viewers confirm or deny this?

My NE Wisconsin affiliate very oddly cut into local commercials during a presentation of how discoveries about the Atlantic ridge helped confirm the hypothesis about plate tectonics. It was infuriating, and suspiciously so since I have never seen such an “accident” during any other network scheduled program. There were many references to evolution in the rest of the program, so the interruption was not specifically correlated to such references. Still–I heavily bet 24 will not suffer such an interruption tonight.

Notice how the comments describe a different scene (suggestive of guns and invading homes) while the official news report describes a seat-belt safety public service announcement (suggestive of government regulation of behavior). So, not only is there a story passing through the mainstream rumor mill about censorship of science by crypto-religious fanatics controlling local television, but within that story is another hidden story about how revealing censorship through an official report is actually a coverup of something more violent and primal like an invasion of one’s home, all told through the comments to the story. After all, why are there people commenting about a different set of scenes than what the news report says?
Don’t you ever wonder how you don’t notice these things, when life’s little puzzles always have more to them? Do you wonder why when people push your buttons, you don’t even notice anymore?
I think this is what people are trying to explain about how philosophy is overcome with a very insidious disease when we so easily give in to a real moral panic. We aren’t hesitating the way we used to, to just listen.
